Spectators will be very welcome, but please ensure you observe the Covid-19 socially distancing guidelines. Plastic chairs will be arranged on the patio area outside the club-house, but these are reserved for players and markers to change their shoes, etc. Additional chairs will be placed around the green for spectators, in addition to the wooden benches.
Given the current Covid restrictions, we have decided that we cannot hold a separate presentation of trophies at the traditional President’s Day at the end of the season. We plan to present the monetary prizes to the finalists of all the competitions after their respective finals, but we will not be presenting the actual trophies. We hope to be able to arrange a separate date when we can present the trophies.
We give our best wishes to all the finalists, and to all the members who have taken part in any of the club competitions. This has been a difficult season, but we appreciate your support and we hope that you have enjoyed taking part in the competitions and that it has increased your experience and knowledge of the sport.
Acorn Trophy – We have already held 4 sessions of this year’s Acorn trophy and plan to complete this informal competition on the mornings of Saturday 19th and Saturday 26th September, starting at 10am. These will effectively replace the previously planned Fun Day and President’s Day. Everyone is very welcome to come along and take part in the Acorn Trophy. Dress is informal. You can just turn up on the day, but we would appreciate it if you could put your name on the list in the club-house if you intend to come, so that we can plan the activities and teams for that day.
Club AGM – Given the current restrictions and the uncertainty concerning Covid-19, the committee has decided to postpone the club’s Annual General Meeting, which should have been held on Saturday 5th December. We provisionally hope to hold the meeting at the beginning of next season, on the 24th April, but we will keep you informed of our plans nearer the date.
Club Telephone – We have changed the provider of our club telephone. The new number is 020 8368 0026. The broadband service should be available by the 19th September.
National & County Competitions – 2021 – The entry dates for these competitions have been put back to March 2021. We will give more information as it becomes available.
Cribbage & Bridge Clubs – Unfortunately we feel it is still not safe to re-start these activities, especially given the recent surge in Covid cases and the latest Government restrictions on group meetings. We will keep this situation under review.
Visit to Potters – The planned visit to Potters leisure resort in October has unfortunately been postponed. Some members had already paid their deposits, but Potters have agreed that these deposits can be “rolled over” and used against next year’s proposed visit.
100 Club – The £100 prize for the end of August was won by June Hughes. The draw for the end of September will be made at the final Acorn Trophy on the 26th September or the last Pairs League matches on the 28th September.
…. And finally, we are delighted to announce that we expect to receive one of the Government’s Covid-related grants. We have been assured by Barnet Council that our application has been successful and that we will receive £10,000 within the next few days. This will obviously help our finances considerably and will probably turn a potential substantial loss on this financial year into a small profit. We will present a detailed financial report at the club AGM, by which time we hope to be able to give more information about the proposed extension to our club-house.
In the meantime we hope you will all have a healthy end to 2020 and we wish you the best for a happy New Year in 2021. We thank you for your support this year in extremely difficult circumstances and hope that we can all enjoy a more “normal” season next year.
