Introduction to Competitions

We organise an extensive range of competitions, held throughout the season, with finals for most competitions held on a pre-arranged weekend in September. Some competitions are single-sex, open to either men or lady full-playing members and junior members. Other competitions are mixed, open to players of both sexes.

Most competitions are played on a “play-by” date basis. The draws for these competitions are made towards the beginning of the season. The bowls committee agrees fixed dates by which successive rounds must be played, with individual players having the responsibility to play their respective matches by these dates.

Some competitions – the men’s and ladies’ 2-wood singles, mixed pairs and mixed triples – are played on specific dates arranged in our programme. The competitions are played up to the semi-final stage on the fixed date, with the finals being played on the finals weekend in September.

In addition, we arrange two other competitions – the Aussie pairs and the Bob Sawyer Trophy – which are played on specific dates in our programme. These competitions are open to any full-playing or junior member who wishes to turn up on the pre-arranged date, with all matches, including the final if relevant, being played on that date.
